All of our clients here at Westmac will begin with an initial assessment appointment. This is so that we can take time to get to know you and your pet before any treatment commences. The initial assessment will be 1 hour long which allows us to move at a speed that provides most reassurance for your best friend.
In this time we will do a gait analysis for your pet to observe the way that they move, and we will also measure key areas of their structure to note the natural differences in their build. These points will be reassessed regularly to document improvements. We will also weigh your pet and provide a 7 point health check which will include:
We will then commence the first session within the Underwater Treadmill.
Please be aware that to book your first appointment into our diary new clients will be asked to pay an initial deposit of £15.00, which is recoverable off the cost of your first completed session with us.
The recuperative appointments follow on from the initial assessment. The Hydrotherapist or Physiotherapist will have devised a treatment plan within the Underwater Treadmill that they feel is appropriate for your pet, and the sessions will work towards realistic goals and aims based on the information from your Veterinary referral, and also the information gathered from your initial assessment. Depending on each individual case these session are usually on a once a week basis.
Once a patient has reached a suitable stage of their rehabilitation they may be moved onto our Maintenance Appointments, designed to maintain the benefits achieved during the Recuperative Appointments over a longer time scale and reduced appointment frequency. This will be at the discretion of the Hydrotherapist in line with your pet's bespoke treatment plan.
A report will be produced after each of these sessions which will be made available to your Veterinary Surgeon. A copy can also be sent to your own email if requested.
Did you know puppies can get a great benefit from Hydrotherapy?
It is a safe form of exercise with minimum weight bearing through young joints, especially good for building muscle and strength in large breed dogs.
It is an excellent way of tiring your puppy out in a fun, attention and treat filled environment and broadens their horizons by helping them socialise to novel situations.
Plus they are familiar with the concept of Hydrotherapy should they ever require treatment in the future, or decide to utilise the benefit for fitness and health throughout their lives.
To qualify for our Puppy Socialisation appointments dogs must be under 6 months old when they start their sessions. The first 5 appointments will be honoured at the puppy price if the dog becomes older than 6 months within a 3 month period of starting, unless an orthopaedic or neurological condition becomes apparent.
or £180 for 5 appointments
You can often claim the costs of Hydrotherapy treatment on Insurance with a Veterinary Referral, we are more than happy to help with this should you require assistance with your claim.
PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON APPOINTMENT TYPES
Westmac Canine Therapies is affiliated with the Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA)
The majority of insurance companies recognise the benefits of Hydrotherapy and will pay out for a certain number of sessions or a set amount e.g. 10 sessions or £750
Your insurance company will be able to tell you if Hydrotherapy is included as part of your policy.
Owners will be expected to pay on the day for any treatment received and then claim these sessions back from their insurance afterwards. We are happy to assist in the completion of insurance claim forms.
